What is Brush Plating?

Understanding Brush Plating: 

Brush plating, also known as selective plating, portable electroplating or electroplating on-site, is a specialized surface treatment technique that involves applying a thin layer of metal onto a target area. Unlike traditional electroplating, which submerges the entire component in a bath of plating solution, brush plating is a highly precise method that targets specific areas of the component, making it ideal for localized repairs, enhancements and modifications. Its humble beginning saw the development from a quick, touch-up for correction of plating defects, to becoming an integral part of the restoration process in many industries.



Applications of Brush Plating:

Below are some applications of Brush Plating.

1.      Repair and Restoration: Brush plating is a go-to solution for repairing worn, corroded or damaged areas of mechanical components. From aircraft engine parts to printing cylinders, to marine hydraulic shaft, brush plating restores components to their original specifications, minimizing downtime and replacement costs.

2.      Enhancement and Modification: Industries often require components with specific characteristics such as improved wear resistance, corrosion protection, surface treatments, enhanced conductivity. Brush plating offers a tailored approach, allowing these attributes to be selective applied to the required areas.

3.      Other applications also include galling prevention for oil tool connections which is critical in the Oil & Gas industry, anodizing, as well as improving adhesion of surface treatments to selective metals.
